Life has been my greatest teacher. Every challenge, relationship, achievement, and opportunity to serve has contributed to the person I am today. Those experiences fuel my creativity and allow me to write music that speaks to the heart with authenticity, compassion, and purpose.
About Σhomari
My name is Jackie "Σhomari" Rankin, and my story isn't one of perfection—it's one of perseverance. Every song I write is rooted in real experiences, real pain, real victories, and a belief that no matter what life brings, there is always a reason to keep moving forward.
Like many people, I've battled depression at different points throughout my life. Some of those struggles began during my college years, where I experienced trauma that changed the way I viewed myself and the world around me. There were moments when the weight of life felt overwhelming, and I questioned where I belonged. Those experiences left scars, but they also planted the seeds of resilience that continue to shape who I am today.
For more than 17 years, I made my living as a professional truck driver. While it was honest work that provided for my family, it came with sacrifices that many people never see. Long days turned into long weeks away from home. I missed birthdays, holidays, milestones, and countless moments with the people I loved. The open road became both my workplace and my place of reflection. It taught me discipline, patience, and appreciation for the people waiting for me when I returned home.
Throughout those years, I never stopped striving to be the best husband and father I could be. I wanted my family to see that integrity, hard work, faith, and love are worth fighting for. I wasn't always perfect, but every decision I made was with the hope of creating a better future than the one I inherited.
Life also taught me that not every friendship is meant to last forever. I've experienced betrayal, disappointment, and the heartbreak of watching relationships fade away. Those losses hurt deeply because I value loyalty and genuine connection. But over time, I learned that every ending creates space for growth, wisdom, and new beginnings.
One of the greatest losses of my life came on March 30, 2015, when I lost my father. His passing left a void that words can hardly describe. He was my example of strength, sacrifice, and providing for family. Losing him forced me to confront grief in ways I never imagined, but it also inspired me to live a life that would make him proud.
Just one year later, God opened a new chapter in my life through Prince Hall Freemasonry. What began as joining an organization became a journey of personal transformation. It challenged me to become a better man from the inside out—to lead with integrity, serve with humility, and live with purpose.
That journey continued as I became a Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason and Knights Templar, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and eventually a Noble of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine (AEAONMS). Each organization reinforced the values of service, charity, brotherhood, and personal accountability.
Those same principles ultimately led me to become a proud Brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, where the commitment to Culture For Service and Service For Humanity aligned perfectly with the purpose that had been growing inside me for years.
Through community service, mentorship, and serving alongside incredible brothers and sisters, I discovered that true fulfillment isn't found in what we achieve for ourselves—it's found in what we do for others.
Today, that purpose lives through my music.
Every lyric I write carries a piece of my journey. Whether I'm singing about love, loss, faith, perseverance, family, or hope, my goal is simple: to remind someone that they are not alone. If one song helps someone keep going, encourages healing, or gives them hope during a difficult season, then I've accomplished something far greater than making music.
Σhomari isn't just an artist.
It's the story of a man who has fallen, struggled, questioned, grieved, grown, and continued to rise.
My journey has taught me that pain can become purpose, setbacks can become strength, and brokenness can become a testimony. Today, I stand committed to serving others through my faith, my brotherhood, my community, and my music—because I believe every life has value, every story deserves to be heard, and every person deserves hope.

My Creative Process
For me, Southern Soul isn't something I create—it's something I've lived.
Every song begins with a real experience, a memory, or a lesson life has taught me. Whether it's love, heartbreak, faith, family, brotherhood, loss, or perseverance, I write from a place of honesty. I believe the best songs aren't manufactured; they're felt.
My process starts by asking one question:
"What truth needs to be told today?"
From there, I build the story. Sometimes it's a conversation I've had, a moment that changed my life, or something I've watched someone else go through. I let the lyrics come naturally before I ever think about the melody.
Growing up in the South taught me that stories connect people. The juke joints, front porches, church pews, family gatherings, and long country roads all had one thing in common—they were filled with people sharing life's victories and struggles. That's the spirit I try to capture in every record.
Once the story is complete, I shape it into a Southern Soul groove. I want every listener to feel like they're hearing someone tell their own story over timeless melodies, blues guitar, warm keyboards, and rhythms that make you want to dance while still touching your heart.
My experiences as a husband, father, truck driver, community servant, Freemason, and member of Phi Beta Sigma have all influenced my songwriting. Every chapter of my life has given me another perspective to share through music.
I don't chase trends.
I chase authenticity.
If a song can make someone smile, heal a broken heart, remember someone they love, find strength during difficult times, or simply dance away the stress of the day, then I've accomplished exactly what I set out to do.
My mission is simple:
Tell real stories. Touch real hearts. Leave people better than I found them.
